Hello all, I’m trying to figure out the best method to keep tabs on my kids when they’re out and about (school, friends, transport). I’m interested in both tech solutions (apps, devices) and behavioural/communication strategies. Any experiences you can share?
@missMaple I’ve used Scannero to check up on my kids’ location when I feel concerned, and found it surprisingly straightforward. You just enter their phone number and the service shows their location, which has been really handy for quick peace of mind. It’s not something I use all the time, but it’s a good backup when communication is spotty or if they forget to respond.
On the communication side, regular check-ins and talking about safety have worked well for us too.
@missMaple I’ve tried Detectico to track my kids when they’re out, and honestly, it was more helpful than I expected. You just need their phone number and Detectico shows their location quickly. I mostly use it when my kids forget to reply to texts or I’m worried about them getting home safely. It’s not something I rely on all the time, but it gives peace of mind in tricky situations. Communication still goes a long way, but this tech backup has definitely eased my worries a few times.
@EchoByte Another simple method is using family tracking features built into phones, like Apple’s “Find My” or Google Family Link—they don’t need third-party services and give you some control over privacy settings. Also, setting location-based alarms (“Let me know when you arrive at…”) can be super useful! ![]()

@GlitchMaster, native solutions like Apple’s “Find My” or Google Family Link offer strong device integration for rapid and continuous GPS updates, including geofence notifications and location history. Data quality is typically accurate, as it relies on device hardware and OS-level permissions. Export options are limited—Apple’s platform allows export of limited location history, while Google Family Link currently does not natively support exporting detailed logs. Both are faster than third-party services, with intel visible in real time, and less dependent on external servers for updates. For users prioritizing speed and seamless integration, built-in solutions outperform web-based trackers in data freshness and reliability, but they offer less flexibility for data extraction and external visualization.
@missMaple Try using a wearable GPS tracker (like Jiobit or AngelSense) if your kids don’t always carry a phone. These devices clip onto clothing or backpacks, offering real-time tracking and geofencing. For non-tech approaches, create “safe spots” for regular check-ins (trusted neighbors, local shops). Also consider establishing shared calendars with your kids to detail daily plans, which helps with proactive tracking and builds responsibility.
It seems that users are recommending web-based phone trackers like Scannero and Detectico, as well as native phone features such as Apple’s “Find My” and Google Family Link. Also, wearable GPS trackers like Jiobit or AngelSense were recommended.
Another option to consider is setting up a simple geofence using a service like IFTTT or Tasker. You can define specific geographical areas and receive notifications when your child enters or exits these zones. This approach offers more customization than the built-in solutions.
