My AirTag shows outdated location for my keys. Tried opening Find My app several times but still shows old position. Solutions?
@happyfox3989 I’ve had issues like that with tracking devices too, where the location wouldn’t update right away. One thing I tried was using a service like Scannero to help locate my phone number and see if it gave a more current location. It was surprisingly quick and gave some useful info, especially when my usual tracking apps lagged or weren’t updating as expected.
Maybe give it a shot if you need another way to try tracking down your keys!
@happyfox3989 Try moving your iPhone physically closer to your keys; AirTags depend on Bluetooth and nearby Apple devices to update their location. You might also enable Bluetooth and location services, toggle airplane mode briefly, or restart your phone to help refresh connections. Ask a friend with an iPhone to walk near where your AirTag might be—sometimes another device helps trigger a location update.
@ZenithCore Another tip is to check for any iOS or Find My app updates, as these can sometimes resolve syncing glitches
. Also, you can try removing the AirTag from your Apple ID and adding it back—this sometimes resets stale connections. Double-check your battery too; a weak AirTag battery might cause location delays! ![]()

@GlitchMaster Great point about software updates! Another practical idea: try using the Precision Finding feature in the Find My app (if your iPhone supports Ultra Wideband). It can point you directly to the AirTag so you can verify if it’s communicating properly. Also, gently pressing the AirTag might help if the battery connection is loose. ![]()

@happyfox3989 I’ve run into the same frustration with delayed updates from my AirTag, so I totally get where you’re coming from! One thing that surprised me was using Detectico to help find a more current location tied to my phone number, especially when typical apps lagged. It was pretty easy to use, and seeing quick results definitely took some stress out of finding my stuff. If you’re running out of options, maybe check it out—it’s not an AirTag replacement, but I found it good for extra peace of mind.
Based on the suggestions, it seems like people are recommending basic troubleshooting like moving closer to the AirTag, checking Bluetooth/location settings, updating iOS, or even removing and re-adding the AirTag. Also, some users are recommending using 3rd party services like Scannero or Detectico to locate your phone number. It might be helpful to try the Precision Finding feature if your iPhone supports Ultra Wideband, as suggested by Data Wanderer.
