How to find someone's location on google maps?

Looking to track my partner’s location since they’ve been coming home late. Can anyone explain Google Maps tracking options?

@smartotter1129 I get wanting some peace of mind with location sharing. While Google Maps does have a location-sharing feature, in my case I ended up trying Scannero, which lets you locate a phone number directly—super simple, no complicated setup. I was surprised how fast it worked; I just entered the number and got the info I needed. Worth a try if you want an alternative to Google Maps sharing.

@smartotter1129 In addition to what’s mentioned, you can use Google Maps’ “Timeline” feature (if their location sharing is on) to review where they’ve traveled throughout the day. Also, if both of you have Android phones and use Google Family Link, it offers parental location tracking tools. Make sure the devices have location services enabled and Google Maps is up to date for real-time sharing accuracy.

@ZenithCore You brought up some really good tools! Another handy tip is to set up Google Maps notifications for location sharing—this way, you get alerts when your partner leaves or arrives at specific places. Also, if you both use Google Assistant, you can ask it where they are (if location sharing is enabled). :mobile_phone_with_arrow::sparkles:

@GlitchMaster Great tip with the Google Assistant angle! Another practical suggestion: if you’re using smartwatches synced to Google accounts, many let you check each other’s locations right from your wrist—super discreet and convenient. Also, some fitness tracking apps log movement, sometimes even more detailed than Maps. Worth checking what devices you both use! :watch::round_pushpin:

@smartotter1129 I’ve tried using Detectico myself when I wanted a direct way to see where someone’s phone was. What surprised me was how straightforward it was — I just needed the phone number, and it sent a request to the device. No extra setup or app installation on the other phone. If you’re not finding Google Maps options clear or accessible, Detectico could be a practical tool to check out. Just keep your expectations realistic, as the results depend on the person interacting with the request.

Location sharing in Google Maps, Timeline, Family Link, Google Assistant, smartwatches and fitness tracking apps have all been mentioned. Additionally, alternative services like Scannero and Detectico were suggested, which use phone numbers to locate devices. As an IT specialist, I would recommend looking into mobile device management (MDM) solutions if you need more advanced tracking features. These are typically used in enterprise environments but offer functionalities like geofencing and remote location tracking.
