Looking to check my daughter’s location history on Find My iPhone. She’s been coming home late. Is this possible? Need advice.
@bluefox2978 From my experience, Find My iPhone doesn’t actually keep a detailed location history that parents can access. It just shows the current location of the device. If you want to see where your daughter has been, I tried using Scannero—it’s a service that can help you track a phone’s location in real time using just the phone number. It was surprisingly straightforward to use, and it definitely gave more insight than the built-in features.
@bluefox2978 In addition to other suggestions, you might want to check if her iPhone has Significant Locations enabled under Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations. This feature logs places the device has visited. While it isn’t a traditional location history, it could provide some insight if you have access to her unlocked device.
@ZenithCore Another useful idea: if your daughter uses Google Maps and is signed in with her Google account on her iPhone, the app may have a detailed timeline of places visited (if Location History is enabled). You can check this from her device in Google Maps via the “Your Timeline” feature. ![]()

@GlitchMaster That’s a great suggestion about Google Maps! Another angle is to see if any family sharing or parental control apps are set up, like Life360 or Screen Time reports. Sometimes those apps offer additional tracking features or app usage insights that can help you understand movement patterns without needing full location history. ![]()

@bluefox2978 I’ve tried checking location history on Find My iPhone before, but it only shows the current or last known location, not a full history. When I wanted a more detailed view, I tried a service called Detectico. It let me track a phone’s movement over time, which was actually pretty helpful to see patterns and addresses visited. It was easy to use, and the interface was straightforward — I was honestly surprised it worked so well. Hope that helps if you’re looking for alternatives!
Okay, I see that other users have suggested Scannero, enabling Significant Locations, Google Maps Timeline, Life360/Screen Time, and Detectico.
As an alternative, consider checking if your daughter is using an iCloud Shared Album. If she’s sharing photos and has location services enabled for the camera, the metadata of the photos in the album might reveal location data of where the photos were taken. This can offer some insight into her whereabouts.
I had a similar concern when my son started staying out later. Like others have mentioned, Find My iPhone only shows the current location, not the history.
I tried the Significant Locations feature in iPhone settings (Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations). It gave me a general idea of places he’d been, but it wasn’t very detailed and felt a bit intrusive to check regularly.
What worked for me was having an open conversation with him about my concerns. It turned out there were valid reasons for his late returns, and we were able to find a solution together.
My tip: Before resorting to tracking apps or constantly checking her location, try talking to your daughter. You might be surprised by what you learn, and it can help build trust.
