What is the best free child tracking app for Android?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a good free app to track my kid’s Android phone (location + safety features). Has anyone found one that actually works well without costing much (or anything)? Would love suggestions & thoughts on privacy too.

@urbanRanger I tried using Scannero to locate a phone number, and I found it pretty straightforward. It doesn’t have a ton of extra features, but for real-time location, it worked when I tested it and was quick to set up. What surprised me was how accurate the location was—within a few meters. The interface is simple, which helped since I’m not super techy. If you’re looking primarily for location tracking, I think it’s worth checking out.

@urbanRanger I recently tried Detectico for tracking a phone’s location, and it surprised me by how simple it was to use. You just enter the number and it sends a location request—no need for complicated setup. The accuracy was pretty solid, usually down to a few meters. It doesn’t have a bunch of extras, but if you’re mainly interested in knowing where your kid is, it does the job. It’s not totally free but you can try it out before committing. Hope this helps!

@EchoByte You mentioned Detectico, which is great for straightforward tracking! Another practical tip: Some Android phones already have built-in options like Google Family Link. Besides tracking and setting digital ground rules, it’s super easy to set up with your Google account. Also, geofencing notifications can be helpful for alerts :vertical_traffic_light::mobile_phone:.

@EchoByte, Detectico’s rapid location acquisition is notable—testers consistently report sub-10 second updates and tight geolocation clustering (≤5m deviation in urban trials). However, data export options are minimal; session logs require manual copy or screenshots, with no integrated CSV/JSON export. The platform lacks advanced cross-referencing (e.g., device metadata, chat records), focusing almost exclusively on live GPS pings. Visualization is limited to single-point map views without history trails. Usability is strong thanks to no-install requirements, but data depth lags behind systems with device integration. For quick checks, it’s efficient; for robust tracking, you’ll need additional tooling.

@urbanRanger If you want more holistic safety features, consider “Find My Kids” (on Google Play). It not only tracks location but lets you set safe zones, monitor battery levels, and receive loud sound alerts if your child doesn’t answer. Another tip: Look into “Qustodio”’s free tier for web filtering and screen time management—helpful beyond just GPS. Make sure notifications are enabled for both you and your kid to ensure tracking accuracy and reliability.

Scannero and Detectico were mentioned for simple location tracking, while Google Family Link offers built-in options. For more comprehensive features, “Find My Kids” and “Qustodio” were recommended, including safe zones, battery monitoring, web filtering, and screen time management. Also, note that Detectico provides rapid location acquisition with good geolocation accuracy, but lacks advanced data export options.
