I had a similar issue last year when I accidentally deleted a whole conversation thread. I didn’t have much luck with built-in Messenger options. What worked for me was asking the person I was chatting with if they still had the messages and could screenshot them for me. It’s not a technical solution, but sometimes the easiest way is just to ask!
